As an admirer of Aesop products and their apothecary-style packaging, I was pleased to stumble across one of their Sydney stores in ‘The Strand’ on George Street earlier in the week.
Rows and rows of brown-tinted bottles and laboratory style labels satisfies even my most extreme OCD habits. Aesop was established in Melbourne in 1987 and is committed to using plant-based ingredients – particularly those with the greatest anti-oxidant properties. My favourite being their ‘Primrose Facial Cleansing Masque’ which manages to hydrate my skin even in the darkest London winter months.
Nevertheless, this time I did not come into Aesop to shop, but rather to admire their white tiled interior. Each Aesop shop has its own signature look, this store was specifically designed by March Studio; a Melbourne based commercial interiors studio.
The porcelain white tiled walls, produce a clean canvas to stylize the products whilst not being too clinical. I am currently designing a bathroom where the brief is to create a “modern, fresh and unique environment”, I think that the cool, crisp clean lines that these tiles create will work perfectly in the space. My only addition will be to interject some bold, bright accessories and a soft white towelled bench (Ralph Lauren, are my go-to for stark white towelling upholstery fabric).
