I had the privilege of recently staying at Calcot Manor, which was an absolute treat. A few months ago I stayed at Barnsley House (also featured on this blog) and interviewed Interior Designer Nicky Farquhar. A number of people have further recommended Calcot Manor and knowing that it was also designed by Nicky, I thought it would be well worth trying out.

In terms of the design aesthetic you can see Nicky’s hand all over this beautiful hotel. The light neutral taupe colours, fuse delightfully with the natural fabrics and organic textures, to give an authentic Cotswold experience. Each room has a relaxing atmosphere, shaped partly by the elegance and modesty of the furniture; nothing too elaborate or overbearing; but carefully curated.
The bedrooms offer both comfort and beauty to form a harmonious interior, fit for relaxing, fully embracing the Cotswold charms with moss greens, deep mulberry’s and warm creams throughout the stone.

I wouldn’t say that Calcot Manor is cutting edge in terms of its interiors but it is not trying to be – relaxation is the name of the game. There are numerous colours on show from the Farrow & Ball range to create a safe and balanced aesthetic at ease with its countryside surroundings.
What this hotel has which goes beyond the experience at Barnsbury House, is an exquisite Spa Area. There is space to fully unwind and have a massage, with both an indoor and outdoor pool, as well as relaxation rooms, steam rooms, saunas, etc.
Areas of the spa are newly refurbished, such as the manicure and pedicure rooms, and make lovely spaces to sit and unwind in. The aesthetic throughout the spa uses various seating formats against organic and natural elements combined with chunky lacquered oak coffee tables and uses soft throws for accessories. It is a gorgeous canvas for seasonal change.
If you are waiting for a message you can also have a lovely cream tea in the spa's reception area which I would highly recommend!
I would thoroughly recommend Calcot Manor as the perfect weekend getaway destination. It is subtle, elegant, peaceful and creative. We loved little details such as the understated Christmas decorations that manage to look both sophisticated and romantic. The service is warm, with fantastic food and the bar staff can make a magical cocktail!
