Twinpalms, Phucket

First impressions for a hotel count for everything. Within the first few steps guests make judgments on style, lighting and most of all, the service. Twinpalms make every effort to stir beauty with their open and opulent entrance and Cassandra and her team create a warm and elegant environment.

Guests are greeted by an arc shaped building with open sides, a garland of fresh orchids and an array of smiling staff. The reception area is flanked by immaculately presented seating areas and luscious ponds. Well balanced and symmetrical the hotel's grounds are shaped like a cross with the pool running from the centre to the base. Perfectly positioned the desk itself sits firmly at the centre of the cross shaped layout of the hotel's grounds. Black polished flooring and dark timber decking lead you to the spa and in house restaurant which form the left and right crux.

The unique design of Twinpalms Phuket was created by Martin Palleros, one of the top landscape architects in the Asia-Pacific region. With a brief to produce a property that has an integrated landscape which works in harmony with nature, the "Contemporary Tropical" design and landscaping incorporate a stunning, world-class water garden. The concern for the aesthetic has resulted in a beautiful and serene Phuket accommodation setting which has a modern, romantic twist.

There are only 97 luxurious and spacious bedrooms or suites, each surrounded by palms, with all of the rooms featuring a private terrace and offering a lagoon / pool view. Authentic Thai metal round drums are placed on the balcony of each room as side tables. These are absolutely gorgeous and add such character. The pool area is huge, over 1,600 m2. A 50 meter lap pool fulfils international competition standards, while the Lagoon pool has 15 guest rooms connect directly to it via their private outdoor terraces.

Deliciously comfortable the in-house restaurant 'Oriental Spoon' features sleek yet sensual minimalist interiors. There are varied wall finishes: polished plaster with timber cross design; tinted glass and a textured coloured metal sculpture adorn the double vaulted ceiling space. Central to the main restaurant is a raised seating area with four dark oak tables, banquette seating around the perimeter and an array of soft cushions in earthly tones of browns, olive & burnt orange.

This place has a totally unhurried and chilled-out ambiance where the only energy you need to expend is lying by the pool or sitting on the beach. If you want to be cocooned in an Asian tropical sanctuary or have a few days spare and need to be located near Phuket airport I would highly recommend this hotel.

Twinpalms Phuket recently celebrated their tenth anniversary, which coincidentally coincided with the launch of their new restaurant, 'Palms Seafood'. Conveniently located just 700 meters from the hotel, 'Twinpalms Phuket' the resort offers a complimentary return shuttle bus.

Once again, Twinpalms called upon the design services of Martin Palleros, the creative who conceived the Asian inspired hotel. Unsurprisingly then, like the hotel the restaurant is balanced and symmetrical. The whole space is centred around a raised pool which draws a clean line towards the sea. The perfect setting to sit and watch the traditional longboats fishing as the sun goes down beyond.

Upon entering the restaurant, one is greeted by a beautiful old tree, the ceiling has been cut out to allow for growth. It sits in front of the tanks where diners can choose their own catch before having it perfectly prepared for each individual. Within the pool of water there are six sunken eating booths. Lined in marble Carrara these literally feel as though you are under water. Experientially nothing quite beats the fire pit reflecting on the pool, a cool cocktail and the arching palm trees.

Banquette seating, cushions, cream tones offset the dark pool of water. This creates an organic neutral scene with hanging plants, modern dining chairs with the most perfect scenery to watch the sun go down - as the photos below show! The long banquette offers an ideal spot for groups to gather and the perfect setting for both a glamorous party or an intimate dinner.
