Tyson London & Glass Blowing
A couple of weeks ago we had the pleasure of taking a step away from our computers and retreating to the leafy town of Horsham to visit Tyson London’s showroom and workshop. Tyson’s set up is small but from our experience, a more than capable team. There is a strong sense of family at the heart of the company, with the iron work furniture made by his Father in Australia and his sister, Bianca Smith’s, artwork adorning the walls.
Despite our intrigue to see that they were blowing glass as we pulled up, we didn’t expect to be doing it ourselves in just under an hour! We were completely mesmerised by the creation of their large 'Robyn' lamps in gold glass. It was like watching a dance between these two Royal Collage of Art alumni. They were completely in sync with what they were doing and knowing what had to happen next. Also to their credit they didn’t mind our overly enthralled group leaning in and asking a multitude of questions.
The team was kind enough to let us all have a go at this and we created what we are thinking of as “end of the week” shot glasses due to their large size! After spending some time in the kiln we received our glasses in the post this week and we couldn’t be happier with the results! A little squiffie and lopsided maybe but we just love them and really appreciated the chance to make them our selves.
To complete our visit we were given a tour of their adjoining showroom, in which we could have spent the rest of the week swooning over (and used most of our photo storage on!) . Tyson and his carefully selected team have created here a unique amalgamation of unique art installations, antiques with their renowned accessories across every surface. There isn’t a set style to what Tyson offers and yet everything flows seamlessly.
Thank you Tyson London for having us and kindly try glass blowing!
